Alfred was in the waiting room trying to distract himself with game on his iphone. But even that couldn't keep his mind from wandering and the constant worry of his British friend in the other room who was sick and who knows how badly he was sick, or even how long??
Alfred just was not able to keep his mind from going down morbid paths about what was going on with Arthur, 'Why am I so freakin worried about him?...Maybe it's because I was his former colony?...No that's not what I'm feeling right now or..have been for while now...'
